Stikine International Canoe Expedition

By invitation only. Five men. Two weeks. Two countries. One river.

We fly into Whitehorse, travel to Telegraph Creek, British Columbia, and paddle the Stikine River all the way to the sea at Wrangell, Alaska. From there, the Alaska Marine Highway ferry carries us north through the Inside Passage to Juneau, where we fly home.

The Stikine is one of the last great free-flowing rivers in North America, running through the Coast Mountains past glaciers, granite walls and grizzly country. This is a true wilderness crossing: no roads, no cell service, and a team that has to function as one unit from start to finish.

What you’ll learn

Expedition canoe travel and river reading. Wilderness camp craft and bear safety. Expedition logistics across an international border: planning, provisioning and moving a team by air, river and sea. Leadership and communication when the team is tired, wet and far from help.

How the expedition runs

We meet in Whitehorse and travel to Telegraph Creek. Days on the river are spent paddling, scouting, making camp and rotating leadership roles. At Wrangell we clear into the United States and board the ferry to Juneau for the final leg and a full debrief before flying out.

The standard

This trip is built on hardship. You must be able to run a half marathon in under two hours, paddle for long days in cold, wet conditions, and hold a valid passport. Medical disclosure and a signed waiver are required. Acceptance is not guaranteed.

How to get in

Request an invitation and complete the application. If an alumnus referred you, say so. Promising applicants get a call. Accepted men receive their invitation and deposit link.
